Trailer Anaylsis - The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games PosterAs the trailer starts we are shown the institution company followed by establishing shots of a forest, there are low angle shots looking up and the tress which makes them seem intimidating and this is an important view the audience must have as they can the sympathise with the characters when they are in there. This builds suspense which fits the genre of the film which is thriller/action. There are ambient sounds which are enhanced for effect and music which comes and goes, this also puts the audience on the edge of their seats. The music and pace of the trailer increases there are cutaways and fades to black and this also helps to set the ace for the trailer. There is editing at the begging where she fires an arrow and parallel editing is used. There are mid shots, close ups and reaction shots when the characters are speaking, there are also over the shoulder shots when they are in conversation, this shows the different relationships between the characters. There are quick focus pulls which put the audience on edge and increase the pace of the trailer, this also helps the audience to focus on the important parts of the trailer as it highlights them. There are high angle shots which make the victims appear more vulnerable, the audience will therefore sympathise with them more. Cross cutting is used to add further tension. There are a lot of fades to black when there is a big jump in time and place. Titles appear in the clip which reinforces the unique selling point that it was originally a book. The pace slows down in the middle and then picks up again, this adds to the suspense and tension of the trailer. It end with the name of the film in gold text that looks like fire, conforming to the genre and this on a black background this makes it really stand out and the audience will take more notice of it.
