Analysis of Film Trailers - What to expect when you’re expecting

The genre of the film is comedy/drama/romance. The film shows the lives of different couples who are all about to enter the world of parenthood and shows the troubles they will face along the way. Its unique selling point is that it was originally a book. Around 12+ it’s a film targeted towards adults as they will be able to relate to the characters although as it’s a comedy it can also be targeted towards teenagers who will enjoy the humour. Catchy music from the begging which grabs the audience and sets an upbeat mood for the film, this is typical for a comedy. Music increases pace along with the trailer, this builds up more excitement for the audience. There are lots of two shots so you can clearly establish the connection between the characters and see which ones and couples. The film is fast paced as this makes it appear more upbeat and this conforms to a stereotypical comedy trailer, there are parts throughout the film where the pace drops, usually when something funny is being said, this interrupts the pace of the film and so when it picks back up again it keeps the audience interested. Funny lines that people will remember appear throughout the trailer, this makes people want to go and see the film and helps them to not forget it, therefore they are more likely to actually go and see the film. There is a voiceover that briefly tells the story, it’s a man’s voice and he sounds wise, this further adds humour to the film and it makes the main characters appear naive and as though they have so much to learn. There are intertitles throughout the film that advertise the fact it is from a bestselling book and reveals some of the big name characters.as these appear it shows the characters face along with their name and they follow one after the other making it appear like a list and makes the audience feel as though there are lots of good actors and actresses in the film, this is another selling point.
