Trailer Analysis - Flightplan

The trailer starts very slow paced and there is long shot of a plane. There is eerie music in the background which sets the tone for the film. The lack of lighting also makes it seem like a colder and more depressing environment.  There is then a two shot of mother and daughter and this shows that they are close and makes it easier for the audience to sympathise later in the film there is text the fades in and out, showing a slow pace and also telling the audience about the film, this is effective because if it was a voice the audience will feel more involved in the film, whereas this feeling of separation is one that continues within the film. The audience feeling lost is a way of building suspense and also has the audience asking question, this will grab the audience.

The pace increases rapidly which builds further tension for the audience. there are fades to black and jump cuts which also add to the audiences curiosity. There are reaction shots and close ups to show emotion and especially fear in the mums face. There are pans and steadicam used when she is running around the plan. The camera is sometimes slightly cantered which adds to the uneasy feeling the audience will have.

Towards the end there are more intertitles which show the names of the characters, there are also a lot more fades to black and short clips which increase the pace of the trailer, which therefore builds more tension and suspense for the audience helping it to conform to its genre.

The name of the film appears at the end and the music stops and the sounds of a plane taking or is in the background, this is a fearful sound for some people and adds the tension created.
