Analysis of Film Trailers - The Last Song

The genre is romance/drama. A rebellious girl is sent to live with her father and their love for music helps to reunite them. Its unique selling point is that it from the same writers as ‘the notebook’ and ‘a walk to remember’. It’s aimed at teenagers and above.  The target audience would have most likely seen the notebook and a walk to remember and would have enjoyed these films as it is the genre they like; they would therefore be interesting in seeing this film. Miley Cyrus is an icon to many teenagers and so as she is the main actress this would also be a unique selling point of the film and encourage people to go and see it. The music played in the background is mainly the piano as this is an important part of the film. There is also a song that is sung by Miley Cyrus played in the background; this will further grab the target audience. There are lots of close ups in the film as emotion plays a big part in romantic films. There are lots of two shots and over the shoulder shots and you see the characters in conversation. As the piano is a key theme in the films there are also high angle shots that show people playing the piano. there is a voiceover of the dad speaking which tells the audience the basic story of the film, but for most of the trailer it shows different moments throughout the film, some happy and some sad, this makes the audience intrigued and gives them many questions they want to be answered, therefore they are more likely to go and see the film. There are intertitles that say ‘moments in life’ ‘a story about second chances’ these all evoke emotions from the audience and this is typical for a romantic drama.
