Analysis of Film Trailers - The Five Year Engagement

The genre of the film is Romantic Comedy. This is shown by many different features.
You see the narrative is between two people who have just got engaged and are ready to plan their wedding but different issues keep arising and making it difficult for them to plan it. Straight away this shows the audience that it is going to be romance, throughout the trailer there are humorous moments involved showing that this may not just be for a female audience but that men might like to go for the comedy aspect of the film. This helps engage a wider audience and therefore have a more successful film.
The unique selling point of the film is the other film names that pop up throughout the inter titles. They are all names of successful romcoms and this grabs the target audience who have previously enjoyed these films, this therefore makes them want to go and see this film more.
The target audience is 12 and above and aimed at females.
As the clip starts there is catchy music which grabs the target audience, this is very stereotypical for a romantic comedy because the music sets the tone for the film. In places throughout the trailer the music cuts out, this is usually of comical moments and this emphasises them so they have more impact and come across funnier to the audience as the punch line is the main focus. The music also changes throughout the film as the mood changes. When you see problems occur in their relationship the music gets slower and reflects a less upbeat and happy atmosphere.
There are long shots and close ups in the clip which focus on peoples emotions which are key aspects of romantic comedy's.
The pace of the trailer is fast, and there are many jump cuts, this makes it more exciting and seems as though there is allot going on in the film and that its going to be very entertaining, suiting the fact its a romcom.
There is allot of dialogue from the characters, this gives us a better idea of what the film is about and this again helps it to conform to its genre.
