Trailer Analysis - Elf

Elf, the genre of the film is comedy/fantasy. As the trailer starts the name of the institution appears and there is music that plays in the background, its Christmassy music and this conforms to the genre of fantasy. There is a narrator, its an old wise voice, this also conforms to fantasy. There is a graphic match as there is a close up on a book which then dissolves into the same setting but in real life. It starts with equilibrium and the pace of the trailer is slow. Special effects are used as sparkles appear on the screen, this is stereotypical of fantasy. It then appears on screen saying ’30 years later’ and the pace of the film becomes much quicker, the music also becomes louder and faster. There are long shots and close ups of the main character and this shows a full grown man that thinks he is an elf, this adds comedy to the film. Cross cutting is used as a way of building tension and suspense, this makes the audience want to go and see the film. as funny moments happen in the trailer, the music stops, this makes the audience focus on just the clip and makes it seem funnier as it has more of an impact. The name of the film appears about half way through the trailer and the narrator says ‘Will Ferral starts in Elf’ this is a unique selling point as he is a well known actor and this will draw people in and make them want to see it.
