The trailer starts very slow paced and there is long shot of a plane. There is eerie music in the background which sets the tone for the film. The lack of lighting also makes it seem like a colder and more depressing environment.  There is then a two shot of mother and daughter and this shows that they are close and makes it easier for the audience to sympathise later in the film there is text the fades in and out, showing a slow pace and also telling the audience about the film, this is effective because if it was a voice the audience will feel more involved in the film, whereas this feeling of separation is one that continues within the film. The audience feeling lost is a way of building suspense and also has the audience asking question, this will grab the audience.

The pace increases rapidly which builds further tension for the audience. there are fades to black and jump cuts which also add to the audiences curiosity. There are reaction shots and close ups to show emotion and especially fear in the mums face. There are pans and steadicam used when she is running around the plan. Towards the end there are more intertitles which show the names of the characters, there are also a lot more fades to black and short clips which increase the pace of the trailer, which therefore builds more tension and suspense for the audience helping it to conform to its genre.

The name of the film appears at the end and the music stops and the sounds of a plane taking or is in the background, this is a fearful sound for some people and adds the tension created.

Trailer Analysis - Inception

Inception is directed by ‘Christopher Nolan’, this is the director of the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy and there are similarities between them and inception, especially when it comes to marketing.

As the trailer starts there is a man standing in a room, this is Leonardo Dicaprio and this is a unique selling point of the film and this will draw the audience in. the room is very dark and this makes it appear mystical, this fits well as the genre of the film is action, adventure and mystery. The colours signify negativity and this sets a worried mood for the film which will grab the audience and straight away have those wanting answers to questions.

There is a close up of a spinning top and this shows its importance as its what the audience focuses on. There is jumpy music that accompanies this and this puts the audience on the edge of their seats, it sudden slow paced but as the trailer goes on becomes faster paced what increases the tension.

The use of special effects is shown from the very start of the film, a fan of this genre will therefore be drawn in by this and will continue to watch the trailer. There are a lot of establishing shots which showcase the special effects and close ups of the main character.

There are a lot of fades to black which allows many different clips from different times and places are shown, this has the audience asking more question as they are not sure what’s happening. So that the audience are not completely confused by what they are seeing there is the main character talking about the plot of the film, this makes it more interesting for the audience will therefore want to go and see the film.

As the music pace increase there are inter tiles which shown ‘the director of the Dark Knight’ a unique selling point, it then appears with the name of the film which is created out of a maze, this suits the film well as it’s all about feeling lost and finding your way out. We could make our titles have a hidden meaning in as well.

Trailer Anaylsis - Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is a romantic comedy. Catchy music starts of the trailer and conforms to a romantic comedy. A close up introduces us to the main character as she talks about her trip to Paris, there is then cross cutting as we are shown clips from her adventure. As they get to Paris the music changed and is more stereotypical of a comedy, this fits in with the fact that things start to go wrong for them. This is the disequilibrium. The pace of the trailer is fast which also conforms to a comedy as this adds chaos and humour. Match on action is used a lot as the same person plays to parts and as one walks out the room another one enters. There are pans and tracks as the girl is rushing around the town and this makes the audience feel as though they are going with her. There are establishing shots and the music stops when there is a punch line, this conforms to comedy and emphasises the funny moments which will make the audience more interested in going to see it. The music then changes and it’s a song that was written by the main character, these are unique selling points of the film. This song is also the score of the film. its upbeat and this makes the audience feel happy. Trailer Analysis - The Notebook

As the trailer starts there is an establishing shot and non-diagetic sound of music, it’s a piano and this conforms to romance. There is also non-diagetic sound of a narrator which tells the audience the basic plot of the film. this allows the audience to feel more involved and understand it more and will want to see it and find out more. The unique selling point is that this was originally a book and so some people may already know the story and they will want to go and see it on screen. There are mid shots, two shots, over the shoulder shots and close ups, all these shots allow us to get to know the characters and the connection they have with each other. The close ups are very important because this displays the characters emotion which is essential for a romantic film. there are high and low angle shots when they first meet, the low angle shot is of the girl which makes her look powerful over the man, who looks up to her in admiration. The two meet and decide that they will meet up and there is then a jump cut followed by a long shot of the girl on a swing, this shows that time has passed between them both and that there is a journey between them, also stereotypical of a romance genre. There is then a cutaway to two older people talking about this ‘journey’ that has taken place, this gives the audience questions as to why those two people are talking about them. This will make them want to go and see the film to find out. There is then another jump cut where it shows the boy meeting the girls family, stereotypically there is a problem and this sets the scene for a star crossed lovers type of story, also typically of a romantic film. The music changes as problems arise and the pace of the trailer becomes faster, this makes it more dramatic and therefore has a bigger impact on the audience. This is the disequilibrium. There are dissolves and fades to black as the short clips of the couple follow each other. These clips show their relationship at different stages and this an enigma which gives the audience questions. As it becomes more dramatic intertextuality is used as it references the book and this appears on screen in black writing. Iconography is used as there are birds flying in the trailer, this evokes the feeling of being free with juxtaposes with the issues that arise in the trailer. Towards the end of the trailer dissolves are used, this makes the clips appear more linked together. The institution then comes up towards the end followed by the name of the film. this accompanied by a voice which explains who is starring the film.
