Evaluation Activity 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

we feel that the use of the male character as the main focus of the film shows his importance and dominance. this is conventional of action trailers as the male character is seen to be the one that 'saves the day' and has to look after the weak, vulnerable female character who is in need of help. for the magazine cover we have included smaller images of the female characters, this shows that the are not as important and not glorified in the same way as the male character. we have further highlighted the female innocence and vulnerability by including a high angle shot of the little girl and have clearly showed her hands tied up in the clip, this reinforces the fact that she is seen as helpless and the high angle shot makes her appear more vulnerable. The use of London not only links the poster and magazine cover together but it also grabs a wider audience (such as an American audience). it is also very conventional of action films to be set in large citites and this therefore grabd the attention of our target audience even more. our poster is based on the poster from 'Skyfall' as it is in black and white and the main character takes up most of the poster. we have put an emotive quote to the side of the male character which may be more appealing to a female audience as it is focussing on the relationships towards the characters, whereas the male audience may be more interested in fight scenes and gadgets, however we have dressed the male character in a smart suit and the fact that London is in the background highlights that this is an action film. By having the male character in a suit it will make the target audience see him as important and aspire to be like him, they are therefore more intreged in the film and will be more interested in going to see it.
