Poster Research - James Bond

At first this does not look like a filmposter as its not very bold and the name of the film is in very small text and not obvious to the audience. However due to the large followuing that the james bond films has it will be obvious to the target audience what film it is. The poster has an old/classic look which links to the idea of the film as it is going to back to the more traditional James Bond films. this is something that i will do when creating my poster as i will want the poster to refelect the mood/meaning of the film so that the audiece knows what to expect. the 007 is the only part of the poster that is in colour which shows the audience that it has importantce, this could also reflect that the bond films stand out over others. a long shot is used which allows the audience to see james bond and also the vintage car behind him which is something that will draw in the target audience as cars, guns and fight scenes is what they want to see in the film. this also allows london to be seen in the background and this could interest an american audience.

rule of thirds is used in this poster, the gun and james bond and are the main focus and the audience is drawn into this. directly below there is the sign saying 007 which also has a gun on and is the biggest text on the poster, this could be because it is the maain selling point. below this there is a more simple blue background that surrounds the name of the film, the gilrs on either side of him could be representative of the devil and angle as one is wearing white white connotes purity and innocnece and the other is wearing black so looks more sinister. this could represent how bond is tawn between his job and his desire. there is fire in the background which represents explotions that are associated with action films and would be what the audience would want to see.

Film Poster and magazine cover research

The Dark Knight

the poster is very dark in colour which makes the batman sign which is on fire, really stand out. we were thinking about incorporating fire into our title and if so we would do what has been done on the dark knight poster and make the background darker so it stands out. this also make batman appear more mysterious and therefore the audience want to find out more about it and in turn will want to go and see the film. the batman symbol is used twice in the poster which reinforces its importance and this will really grab the target audience. the release date is in the biggest font as its important for the audience to know when the film is going to be released. a low angle shot it used which makes batman appear more intimidating and we could used this in our film poster.

this poster is for the second dark knight film. there is alot more red and fire in the poster and this connotes more chaos which fits well with the fact that this is the second film and the drama has already arrupted. there is still the use of a low angle shot empowering batman and he is stood infront of the batman symbol in this poster which shows the audience thathe is now the main focud and thatthe target audience willrecognise him as batman and not just the symbol. the layout is simular in both posters, it has a quote at the top which gives away a small amount of what the film is about and interests the audience, there is then below the names of actors film and release date.this is the type of layout we would hope to create in our poster.

the magazine cover for the dark knight is very clever as it has released two different photos for the same magazine. this means that big batm,an fans will most likely want both copies, one of batman and one of bane and will therefore pay twice as much for the same content but a different cover. batman and bane are the main focus in this magazine cover and they are infront of some of the text which makes it appear as though they are standing out from the magazine, which is exciting to the audience as it feels like they are coming to life. the dark knight rises is in extremely large font in the bottom left hand side of the magazune and because there is alot going on in the bacground this text has been made white and very bold so it still stands out. the batman logo is still used on the magazine but the main interest is focused on the characters.

New Storyboard

we will start with the intro for the institution that we are going to use. we have choosen Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures as this is conventional for action films and many sucessful action films that we like are produced by Warner Bros.

we will have our first title appear on the screen. this will have a black background and white writing as this helps it to stand out and this is conventional of other action film trailers, such as 'Taken'. by using interetitles we can leave the audience with questions that they want answers to, this not only makes them want to see the film but they begin to put themselves in the position of the characters of the film and this makes them feel more involved and interested. Fade to black.

We will then have a close up of the little girl, this establishes the first character and this will be in the style of a home video, we feel this will ook really interesting and will really grab the audience. again it allows the audience to feel involved in the film as they may reflect on their own home videos. this will gradually build tension. music will be playing in the background. Fade to black.

the next intertitle will appear on screen. this will also be in white text on a black background. music will continue to play in the background. Fade to black.

this will then return back to the home video style clips of the little girl. we will show her innocently playing with toys. music continues. Fade to black.

we will then establish the father daughter relationship by having a clip of the dad teaching the little girl how to ride a bike. this will build further tensioona nd suspense as the audience knows something bad is going to happen and this innocent scene makes the audience conect with the characters and this will make the next scenes feel more dramatic. emotive music will continue to play, Fade to black.

we will have a close up of the little girl as this will allow the audience to see her happy and content expression. music will still play, Fade to black.

more intertitles. Fade to black.

there will be a long shot of an empty swing and the music will gradually become louder to add to the dramatic effect. Fade to black.

there will be a long shot of the mum calling for her daughter next to the empty swing. Fade to black.

we will then have a close up of the mums worried face. by having a close up this means that the audience can clearly see how the mum feels and this will make it more emotive. she will be calling for Rebecca and asking where she is. Fade to black. the music will play quietly in the background to allow the audience to hear what the mum is saying.

more interetitles will appear on the screen. By asking the audeince questions directly makes them feel more involved, this is conventional of action films. Fade to black.

we will then have a long shot of the man walking down stairs and a large building behind him. this will be filmed in London as it is conventional for action films to be set in large cities where it has the feeling that anything can happen. its also very busy and will make it feel more dramatic and worrying that the little girl has gone missing. Fade to black.

we will then have a high angle shot of the man walking down the stairs, this makes him look more vulnerble. we will also make it look as though someone is spying on him by having the camera placed slightly out of veiw of the man, creating the illusion of someone hiding behind something. the music will continue to play and a voice over explain that the man wont get his daughter back until he confroms to what the bad guys are saying will also play in the background, this is conventional of other action trailers we have looked at. it also allows the audience to get a clearer idea of the films plot. Fade to black.

we will have a mid shot of the man walking down the stairs and this will allow the audience to see the busy city that hes in. music will continue, Fade to black.

more intertitles will appear on the screen. Fade to black.

we will then have a shot of a car driving away. car chases are conventional for action trailers. music will continue, Fade to black.

we will have two shot of men having a fight, this conforms to conventions of action trailers. the music will continue and there will be a fade to black.

over the shoulder shot of the men fighting. music and fade to blacks continue.

we will have a shot of the wing mirror of a car, this will allow the audience to see the car chase and this conforms to other action trailers. music and fade to blacks.

we will have a close up of the gear stick. music and fade to blacks.

we will have a shot of the man running and diving under a pole. we will not use a fade to black here as we want to show continuity in our trailer and the next shot will be of the man coming out the other side.

music still playing and fade to blacks.
we will have a close up of the mans worried face, allows the audeince to sympaythise with him. we will use a low angle shot as this makes the man appear strong and this is conventional of action films for the man to be needed to come to the rescue and save the innocent/ weak female character.

we will have a two of men chasing each other. music and fade to blacks.

we will have a close up of the speedometre of a car, this shows that there is a car chase which will grab the target audiences attneion as it is an action film convention. Fade to black.

summer 2013 will appear in bold text so the audience knows exactly when the film is out.

our title of the film will then appear in bold writing so the audience remembers the name of our film. music stops.

to add further tension and surprise the audience we will then have a short clip of the little girl calling for help. this will be a long shot to allow the audeince to see she is alone and vulnerable. we will use a high angle shot to reinforce her vulnerability and will show her hands clearly tied up. this conforms to action films and the female characters are seen as weak and need help/rescueing from the male characters.

close up the little girls face to highlight her sadness, audience will be able to sympathise with her.

our end titles will then appear on screen, again showing the name of the film and release date so the audience will remember it.

Change Of Cast

unfortunatly we have had to change our cast as Amelia works on a sunday and me and charlotte work on saturdays so it has so far cause many issues filming. we have now changed to Spencer and Amy for the mum and dad as they both go to therfield so it is easy to contact and arrange filming with them. although we have done some filming with Amelia and Sam we will not let this go to waste and we will look through the footage and see what changes we would make.

after looking at this scene we do not feel it has a strong enough opening impact and have therefore decided to change some of the scenes for our trailer. we are therefore going to make a new storyboard so that we know exactly what shots we are going to use so that the filming of our trailer we run smoothly. If we were making a high budget film then changing our storyboard at this point in filming we would have wasted alot of time and money. however we are making a low budget film and the footage we have so far has allowed us to learn from our mistakes an we are therefore going to plan a better storyboard that we feel conforms better to the conventions of action films.
